The latest big move to come out of Elite Dangerous is new upcoming DLC called Odyssey which focuses player attention away from fancy spaceships onto more on foot adventures.
“Disembark, Commander, and leave your mark on the galaxy in Elite Dangerous: Odyssey. Explore distant worlds on foot and expand the frontier of known space. Be the first to step out onto countless unique planets as you discover land untouched since time began. Elite Dangerous: Odyssey invites you to become a true pioneer,” reads the game’s description.
Despite being a rather big move for this beloved game there’s little information available right now outside of the trailer embedded below and the official site.
Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is said to focus on four things: first person combat, freedom to tackle the universe as you see fit, assembling a crew and planet exploration. All rather standard space sci-fi stuff.
We don’t mean to harp on the blandness here but the released imagery for the title is a barren brown desert planet and the two characters look like rather generic. You could have told us all of this was some default assets for a game engine or tech demo and we would have believed you.
Hopefully more existing elements of the DLC will be revealed as we get closer to the planned release date of early 2021.
Elite Dangerous: Odyssey already has an official Steam page where you can wishlist the title but there’s little new to see there as it recycles the information and imagery from the aforementioned site. It’s worth visiting if you’d like to add the DLC to your wishlist.
