The itch.io Racial Justice and Equality bundle crosses $5 million

With the murder of George Floyd once again sparking activism to fight inequality in the US and the rest of the world, game storefront itch.io launched an ambitious bundle to raise money for good causes, and that bundle has passed a milestone.

The goal for the sales of the bundle was set at $5 million (~R83 million) and it was just passed that. At the time of writing $5 327 121 (~R90 million) has been raised by 504 492 contributors.

All the money raised is being split evenly between the Community Bail Fund and NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Both organisations are doing a lot right now to help with racial justice, especially for those affected by police brutality when trying to peacefully protest.

Aside from raising so much money for this important cause, the itch.io’s Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality is special for the sheer amount of games it has.

More games are added almost daily but the current count sits at 1 637 titles. Obviously there’s going to be a massive amount of super small games you’ve never heard of, but the bundle also includes some big names like Celeste and Devolver Digital’s Minit.

Like a Humble Bundle you can pledge any amount you like to the bundle but the minimum amount of $5 (~R85). Those who have already bought the bundle also get retroactive access to new titles added.

“We live in a time of racial injustice, inequality, and police brutality against black people. We hope that everyone takes a stand in any way that they can. We’ve partnered with creators from all across our platform to support organizations that are working directly with those affected,” reads the official description of the bundle.

The Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality is running for just under four more days at the time of writing.

Those not wanting to buy the bundle for whatever reason, but still contribute to the cause, are encouraged to do so here.
