Dell debuts refreshed XPS Desktop for the Work From Home era

Over the past few weeks we’ve heard the term new normal bandied about quite a bit. This as working from home has become the go-to method for many given the COVID-19 pandemic and continued national lockdown.

As such, employees are needing to ensure that their work from setup is as good, if not better, than when they were at the office.

To that end Dell has recently stepped in with a number of refreshed products for 2020, and one in particular stands out for us – the new XPS Desktop PC.

As Dell describes it, this latest iteration of XPS Desktop has been “redesigned from the ground up.” For the end user this means the tower is powered by Intel 10th Gen processors, with up to an i9K available depending on the configuration you opt for.

Added to this are graphic card options which top out at the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, as well as a choice of 2TB M.2 PCIe NVME SSD or 2TB SATA 7200RPM HDD. There’s also up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM thrown in for good measure. If you’re wanting to do a bit of tinkering or upgrading yourself, Dell says the XPS Desktop features a 500W power supply to support up to 225W graphic cards, along with four storage bays and three expansion slots.

The company adds that this version of the Desktop takes design inspiration from Dell’s XPS notebooks. We must admit we cannot quite see it in the Night Sky version seen in the header image, but it’s definitely noticeable on the Mineral White colour option, found here.

For now Dell has not listed local availability or pricing on the XPS Desktop, but it is going for sale Stateside, starting at $650 (~R11 012) for the base model.

We should expect to see this new tower, as well as all the other new hardware that Dell has recently revealed land in South Africa later this year.
