Garmin continues battle to restore systems

Last week Garmin’s services, most notably Garmin Connect, went down around the world.

While it is widely reported that this outage was caused by a ransomware attack, Garmin has not issued a statement reporting as much.

However, whatever the problem is, it is rather bad as while some of Garmin’s services have returned, it is still battling to bring many more online.

Garmin Connect appears to be coming back online slowly but certain features have severely limited functionality. You can find a list of the features which are live (and those which aren’t) here.

The firm has also added a few frequently asked questions and answers to its website for those with questions about this outage but there is very little to go on.

Perhaps the one source of comfort is a statement regarding user data.

“Garmin has no indication that this outage has affected your data, including activity, payment or other personal information,” the firm said in its FAQ.

The firm said that the outage leaves it unable to receive calls, answer emails or participate in online chats.

While this sure does sound like a ransomware attack we wait in anticipation for more news from Garmin.
