AWS re:Invent will go virtual for its annual conference later this year

By now, hearing an event will be going digital should be no surprise as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to plague the globe. Acknowledging the impact it has had is Amazon Web Services, which has decided to make this year’s AWS re:Invent conference purely virtual.

The week-long annual event, which normally takes place in Las Vegas towards the end of the year, will now be happening over three weeks starting on 30th November. Each week a new keynote will be shared with virtual attendees, with AWS re:Invent scheduled to end on 18th December.

Along with making the event virtual, AWS has also confirmed that it will be freely accessible to anyone interested in hearing about the new cloud solutions that the firm has been working, as well as some of the customer stories and insights that are often unpacked at re:Invent.

If you’re interested in re:Invent, you can sign up for updates on its official website, where more information will be shared.

With the announcement happening recently, it remains to be seen how AWS will facilitate some of the other critical elements of the conference, such as workshops, demonstrations, interview sessions, and much of the networking that takes place.

There are still a few months for all of those to be sorted out, so hopefully the world’s largest hyperscaler will be able to come up with suitable virtual replacements for the in-person aspects normally associated with a conference.

As we recently discussed during the latest episode of the africast, online events, webinars and roundtables have proved a little hit or miss during lockdown.
