Crosscall launches new rugged range of smartphones and its first tablet

Last year we were given the chance to review the Crosscall Trekker-X4 and we were impressed.

Today the French company announced its new CORE range which includes three smartphones and a rugged tablet.

This new tech, like other Crosscall smartphones and cellphones are designed to withstand use in harsh environments, whether in a factory or out in the field as you can see in the header image above.

As Crosscall is launching its first tablet today let’s start there.

Crosscall CORE-T4.

The CORE-T4 is an 8inch slate that houses a Qualcomm 450 system on chip (SoC), paired with 3GB of memory. In terms of storage there is a rather low 32GB available but there is space for a microSD card.

Driving everything along is a 7 000mAh battery and at the back of the tablet is a 13MP camera.

The CORE-T4 will be available in South Africa online and will carry a recommended retail price of R10 999.

Crosscall has sent Hypertext a CORE-T4 for review and we are working to get that review out as soon as possible.

Next on the agenda is the CORE-X4 smartphone.

This handset has undergone 100 resistance tests including shock, immersion, dust and more. The CORE-X4 can be used with wet hands or while using gloves if need be.

The camera is a 48MP affair which sports something called Fusion 4 technology which couples pixels four by four absorbing more light resulting in a sharper and more “intense” photo even in low light.

Under the hood is the same Snapdragon 450 SoC seen on the CORE-T4.

You are able to use two SIM cards in the handset as well as a microSD card.

The CORE-X4 is available from today and will carry a recommended retail price of R9 499.

Next up is the CORE-M4 which sports a 5inch display and has very low specifications.

Inside you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 SoC paired with just 2GB of memory. For storage there is a rather low 16GB available but again, there is space for a microSD card.

Driving things along is a 3 000mAh battery.

As for the camera, at the back you’ll find a 12MP sensor while at the front a 2MP sensor lets you take selfies.

The CORE-M4 lands in August with a recommended retail price of R6 699. While it is rather cheap but Crosscall has launched something far more affordable if you’re looking for it.

The CORE-M4 GO should cost just R5 399 when it arrives in September of this year. We say should as Crosscall has cautioned that pricing for both the CORE-M4 and CORE-M4 GO are subject to change according to the exchange rate.

Like the CORE-M4, the GO has the same Qualcomm SoC but with only 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.

The camera setup and battery on the GO are exactly like the base CORE-M4.

The real difference here is the use of Android GO for lower spec smartphones. Android GO is much more lightweight (though sports all the Android features you need) than the full-fat operating system runs well on smartphones with under 2GB of RAM.

In addition to the new gadgets, Crosscall is introducing a three-year warranty for all of its devices.

“Crosscall is able to offer a three-year warranty as a result of 10 years of research and development work. The durability of our products has guided the R&D strategy through four promises: resistance, waterproofness, autonomy, and more extensive testing than normal. Furthermore, with durable smartphones there is less obviously breakage meaning companies no longer have to renew or replace their mobile fleet so regularly and this means lower total cost of ownership over the long term,” the director for Crosscall Africa, Julien Furiot said in a statement.

As with all Crosscall devices, the X-Blocker is included so that you can add a myriad accessories to the tablet or smartphone.

Crosscall is looking to cater to a variety of sectors with these devices including industrial, logistics and transport, security and defence, health, agriculture, and sales and distribution.

You can shop the Crosscall range including these latest devices online over on the website. Alternatively they are available through Vodacom and MTN.
