Garmin services still offline after supposed ransomware attack

Garmin’s services appear to still be offline after announcing an outage nearly 24 hours ago.

While the official Garmin Twitter account doesn’t make mention of the reason, it did state that the outage affects a number of its services.

“We are currently experiencing an outage that affects Garmin Connect, and as a result, the Garmin Connect website and mobile app are down at this time. This outage also affects our call centers, and we are currently unable to receive any calls, emails or online chats. We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and apologize for this inconvenience,” Garmin said in a Twitter thread.

However, shortly after Garmin’s services went offline, ZDNet reported that the reason for the outage was a ransomware attack.

This follows several Garmin employees posting to social media that the attack was ransomware.

Unfortunately Garmin has not confirmed that this outage was indeed caused by a ransomware attack.

The outage is also impacting the FlyGarmin services, including its Connext Services, Garmin Pilot Apps and FlyGarmin. Some of those services appear to have returned today.

Should Garmin provide an update regarding the cause of outage we will be sure to share that information with you.
