Unisa misses deadline to release 1.3 million online exam results

After moving its semester one examinations entirely online due to the ongoing pandemic, the University of South Africa (Unisa) has once again missed a deadline to provide the results of these exams to the students who wrote them.

Taking place across May, June and July, the results for the semester one exam period were originally supposed to be released on 20th July. This date was then moved to 27th July, which was also missed.

“The university is releasing the examination results as soon as they become available. Unisa had aimed to have all results released by 27 July 2020, but, due to unforeseen challenges some results might only be available after the set date. Results will be released as and when they are marked,” reads an announcement released by the institution.

Many students have commented that they have either not received any marks at all, or only partial results for a few modules. These late results, as always, have a knock on effect for the second semester of 2020, leaving less time for students to register, complete assignments and study for more exams at the end of the year.

Late release of physical exams at the end of 2019 resulted in Unisa delaying 2020’s first semester a whopping three times. At the time of writing the last day for those awaiting results to register is 5th August. This too is an extension of the original 24th July date, so now the student body have to wait and see if it too is moved.

“The university would like to assure students who receive their results later than expected that they will be accommodated with their second semester registration. Unisa is committed to serving its students with excellence and appreciates the way students have walked with the university and tackled unchartered territories during the difficult Covid-19 pandemic,” Unisa concludes.

At the moment we’re unsure what this accommodation is in reference too.

Unisa is currently under review by a ministerial task team on behalf of Blade Nzimande.
