PlayStation State of Play – will we see Spider-Man?

This week Thursday, 6th August, Sony will be having another State of Play presentation to show off some upcoming games for the PlayStation platform, and our guess is that Spider-Man will make an appearance.

This is because, just recently, the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers announced that Spider-Man would be an exclusive character on the PS4.

Oddly enough the announcement came without any image of this version of the character, only a vague promise that it will invoke design cues from Steve Ditko and John Romita. It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for Spider-Man to be properly revealed in the State of Play.

As a game developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix, Avengers also fits the description of what will be shown off in the event:

“It’s been a while… but State of Play returns this Thursday with a focus on third-party-published games coming to PS4 and PS VR. We’ll have a few PS5 game updates on third-party and indie titles you last saw in June’s PS5 showcase,” Reads the announcement on the PlayStation Blog.

June’s Showcase also featured Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. As Sony acquired its developer Insomniac Games, that makes its a first party title and so we probably won’t see it in the State of Play. It would have been great to see two Spider-Men in one stream but we’ll settle for the possibility of just one.

Outside of software we may also learn more about previous generation hardware support which was recently addressed by Sony.

The latest State of Play event takes place on 6th August at 21:00 BST and will be streamed on Twitch and YouTube. This stream will be more than 40 minutes long so it’s best to grab a snack before things start.
