Loadshedding returns with Stage 2 starting at 8AM

Following warnings that its systems was severely constrained earlier this week, Eskom has reportedly announced that Stage 2 loadshedding will be in effect as of 08:00 on Thursday morning.

On Wednesday Eskom reported that unplanned maintenance meant 11 000MW was not available on the grid. As for planned maintenance, 5 500MW of capacity was unavailable.

This morning however things have become much more severe with EWN reporting that 20 000 megawatts of power are off of the grid bringing us to loadshedding.

Stage 2 loadshedding is set to start at 08:00 and extend to 22:00 however, Eskom has reportedly said that should the situation worsen, loadshedding may be upgraded to Stage 3. Stage 3 is also on the cards for the evening peak.

South Africans now face loadshedding while in lockdown less than a month after Eskom suspended loadshedding which was also caused by a lack of maintenance.

With many South Africans working from home we highly recommend checking the schedules for your area.

You can visit this link to find out how to check your loadshedding schedules online.

Alternatively the EskomSePush app for Android or iOS smartphones delivers notifications regarding loadshedding directly to your smartphone.
