Surprise: Ghost of Tsushima will have co-op multiplayer

Ghost of Tsushima, the PlayStation 4 exclusive that was a singleplayer experience, is getting co-op multiplayer later this year.

Titled “Legends”, this new mode for the game will allow groups of two to four players to have an entirely new experience separate from the story of the base game.

Each player will choose from one of four classes, which each have their own abilities – Assassin, Hunter, Ronin and Samurai are all on offer.

As you may have been able to tell from the iconography and the trailer embedded below, Legends will be leaning into the mythical side of things.

“Ghost of Tsushima’s single-player campaign focuses on an open world and exploring the natural beauty of the island, but Legends is haunting and fantastical, with locations and enemies inspired by Japanese folk tales and mythology and an emphasis on cooperative combat and action,” says Darren Bridges, senior game designer at developer Sucker Punch.

What you can experience in legends depends on how many people are in your party. With two people there are a series of co-op story missions, and with three to four there will be wave-based survival.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is free and scheduled for a Fall 2020 release. That’s between mid-September and mid-December. After the launch of this DLC there will also be a four-player raid released which will allow players “to challenge a brutal, terrifying enemy”.

While this DLC is free, an active PlayStation Plus subscription will be required to access these online features.
