Stage 2 loadshedding continues at 9AM on Thursday

Despite a brief respite at the weekend, this week Thursday is starting to look a lot like last week Thursday thanks to the reappearance of loadshedding.

Having suspended power cuts on Wednesday evening at 22:00, Eskom will once again be cutting power from 09:00 on Thursday morning.

“Due to severe constraints in the power generation system, Eskom will continue to implement Stage 2 loadshedding starting at 09:00 until 22:00 tomorrow,” Eskom said in a power alert on Wednesday evening.

The utility said that unplanned breakdowns meant that 12 100MW of capacity was not available while planned maintenance has taken 4 350MW from the national grid.

With numbers that big, Eskom warned that any further faults in the system would necessitate the need to escalate loadshedding.

As far as returning generating units back to service it appears to be a game of one step forward, several steps back.

“Eskom teams have today and yesterday successfully returned three generation units to service, a further three units tripped, two of which have returned,” said Eskom.
