2020’s SingularityU South Africa Summit heading online in mid-October

The SingularityU South Africa Summit may only have been in existence for a handful of years, but the annual event has always to be innovative in the way it runs things.

With many events now heading online in the COVID-19 and lockdown era, this event focused on “futureproofing Africa” is no different, with it confirming its virtual status this week.

To that end event has been slightly rebranded to the SingularityU South Africa SummitONLINE, happening on 14th and 15th October in a couple of months.

“The presentation format has been revised for the 2020 summit, with shorter talks making way for deeper engagement online with less screen fatigue and a greater variety of topics to be covered,” explains a press release sent to Hypertext.

As with previous years, tickets are being sold, and organisers are incentivising buying them early. This as Early Bird tickets cost R5 000 prior to 11th September. As we get closer to the mid-October date of the virtual event, the price will increase accordingly, with the Late Mover tier costing R10 000 a ticket.

With more than 3 000 attendees expected and 350-plus companies involved, it’s clear that the pricey tickets will not scare anyone off during a pandemic.

Organisers are also billing this virtual event as being as important as previous ones.

“The fourth annual SingularityU South Africa Summit will take a leadership position as a world class online summit out of Africa, showcasing ground-breaking technologies and innovations that are available to take the continent forward. We are focussed on connecting and educating our community so we can come out of this stronger together,” notes Mic Mann, Co-CEO of SingularityU South Africa.

“As we continue SingularityU’s journey to future proof Africa, the pandemic has shown us how important is it too stay ahead of where the world is going, to build communities and human capital in SA, so that we can continue to develop the quality of the South African people’s lives through education, networking and an exponential mindset,” adds Shayne Mann, Co-CEO of SingularityU South Africa.

To unpack what is being planned for this year’s event, a media briefing is happening on 8th September, so it should prove interesting to hear what is in the works.
