You can now technically pay for a GP visit with eBucks

Earlier this month Netcare, under its NetcarePlus brand, launched a range of vouchers that can be redeemed at general practitioners (GP) around the country.

The NetcarePlus GP vouchers cover payment for a variety of aspects of a GP visit including the consultation (in-person or a virtual consultation) and the medication one might be prescribed.

It’s a clever idea for folks who would prefer to go to a private doctor, but are worried about the cost of the visit.

“This product has emerged out of the growing need to make healthcare more accessible to South Africans. The current environment indicates that there is a large portion of the population who either have no medical aid cover or have purchased hospital-only plans. As a result of this, we see many individuals delaying the care that they require, leading to significant medical complications as well as higher costs in the long run,” explains managing director of NetcarePlus, Teshlin Akaloo.

The vouchers can be purchased over on the NetcarePlus website, but we’ve learned of another way that these vouchers can be purchased.

For FNB customers, these vouchers can be purchased through the FNB mobile app or through the eBucks shop. That’s right, you can technically pay for your next GP visit using eBucks.

For those who prefer, credit card and cash purchases are also an option.

“Our aim is to enable our customers to realise their financial and physical wellness goals. Over the years, we have demonstrated our commitment through initiatives such as nav» Wellness and partnership with key pharmaceutical partners to offer eBucks and other special discounts to FNB and RMB Private Bank account holders. We continue to partner with organisations that align to our mission of providing real help to our customers,” explains chief executive officer of FNB Life, Lee Bromfield.

Vouchers range from R290 for a virtual consultation to R350 for an in-person consultation. A voucher for a consultation and acute medication will cost you R430.

To purchase a voucher using eBucks you will need to head to the eBucks shop and follow these instructions.:

  • Click on the terms and conditions
  • Select your payment method
  • Your order reference number will be displayed.
  • The cellphone number will reflect under the delivery details.

For South Africans without medical aid or a limited medical aid scheme these vouchers might be a valuable lifeline.
