Control anniversary celebrated with… statistics

Remedy Entertainment will soon be celebrating a year of its latest game, Control, when 27th August rolls around. To mark the occasion the developer has shared some stats about how players have interacted with the game in the last 12 months.

The percentages in the list below speak for the section of the playerbase that completed certain activies.

  • Most explored area: The Research Sector
  • 8 000: Plants spoken to daily
  • 18 percent: Completed all side missions
  • 19 percent: Died to environmental damage
  • 99 percent: Unlocked the Evade ability
  • 84 percent: Upgraded the Launch ability

27th August also marks the day that the PC store exclusivity of the game will end and it will be available on Steam. Like many recent games Control was an Epic Store exclusive for its first year in the wild. This day will also see the release of the AWE paid expansion, which will crossover with Remedy’s previous game Alan Wake.

While celebrating an anniversary of a great game and amusing numbers about talking to plants are all well and good, Control is still at odds with its community.

This is because of the Ultimate Edition which, yet again, will be coming out on 27th August.

This version of the game game combines all the updates, the AWE expansion and the previous paid expansion The Foundation. While a bundle like this is to be expected for most games, what has ticked the community off is the fact that the next gen upgrade for the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is locked behind this version of the game.

This means that anyone who supported this game early on will be left out in the cold, even those who paid extra for the Season Pass.

Remedy tried to address this in a blog post entitled “Control Ultimate Edition – An Explanation“, but it’s more of an FAQ instead.

With so many new games offering free upgrades to the new consoles, it’s easy for players of Control to feel left out with this decision. That being said the game did come out long before this practice was the norm and details for these consoles became more concrete.

You can read our review of the Control base game here and it still remains one of our favourite titles of the past year or so.
