Wasteland 3 and Control have positive opening weekends

While videogame releases aren’t what they used to be because of the pandemic, two big titles launched this past Friday in the forms of Wasteland 3 and Control Ultimate Edition, with the pair doing rather well.

At the time of writing Wasteland 3 has a Mostly Positive Steam rating with 76% of its 1 139 reviews being positive. For Control Ultimate Edition it has a Very Positive rating at 89% of 1 399 reviews.

The Ultimate Edition of Control – which includes all free DLC as well as both paid expansions – launched on Steam first on 28th August. It will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, GOG and Epic Games Store on 10th September.

Wasteland 3, on the other hand, launched everywhere on 28th August. On GOG its reviews place it at 3.3, 3.9 and 3.3 out of five. These scores are for its overall ratings, verified owners ratings and filters based ratings respectively.

The PlayStation Store has it rated at four out of five stars, and on the Microsoft Store is available without the need for an additional purchase for both Xbox One and PC by way of Xbox Game Pass.

As for the reception to the pair online we’ve seen far more talk about Wasteland 3, though this is likely due to the fact that it’s entirely new and not a repackaging of a game from 2019.

While these two game have cleaned up and have both been at least positively received by players, the same cannot be said for Madden NFL 21, which again launched on 28th August 2020. At one point during its launch weekend the game had the lowest ever user review score on Metacritic.

The sad thing is this game will likely be the most successful of the three here by a wide margin thanks to its lucrative IP, lack of competition due to that IP being exclusive, and a captive playerbase that will likely play and buy the game regardless.
