COVID-19 in South Africa: 31st August

It is the final day of August, which means the country will soon be entering its six month of lockdown. Currently we are in lockdown level 2, but the latest figures for COVID-19 in South Africa does not make for good reading, particular as it pertains to fatalities.

This as the National Department of Health (NDoH) has reported that the country has amassed 14 023 fatalities as a result of COVID-19 in South Africa. 47 people have succumb to the disease over the past 24 hours, resulting in the breaking of the 14k mark.

The NDoH confirms that of the 47 new fatalities, 16 in Gauteng, 11 in Mpumalanga, seven each in the Eastern Cape and Western, and three each in KwaZulu-Natal and Free State.

As for the number of cases to date, that figure now sits at 625 056, with 2 505 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours. Recoveries are luckily high too, with 538 604 reported by the NDoH, which translates to a 86 percent recovery rate.
