LEGO’s Diagon Alley is four buildings and eight movie locations

LEGO has revealed a gargantuan set for its Harry Potter line in the form of 75978: Diagon Alley, and it spans more than a metre.

The 5 544 pieces here build four separate buildings, each of which two famous areas from the movies:

  • Building one: Ollivanders wand shop and Scribbulus Writing Implements
  • Building two: Quality Quidditch Supplies and The Daily Prophet
  • Building three: Flourish & Blotts bookstore and Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour
  • Building four: Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes and Knockturn Alley

All four buildings are independent and can be moved around for display or play, but they can also be pushed together to make one large structure which is more than a metre long.

To inhabit Diagon Alley there are 14 minifigures in the box including the Harry Potter, Hermione, Ron, Hagrid and more. Even some smaller characters like Florean Fortescue and an unnamed Daily Prophet photographer get their own minifigures.

As for the price, well let’s just say we hope you have some gold stored away at Gringotts. Overseas the set will sell for £369.99 (~R8 241) / $399.99 (~R6 684) / €399.99 (~R7 974). In South Africa our local prices are close to those in the UK, so expect to spend around eight thousand rand should you want one of these.

Overseas the set will be available tomorrow – 1st September. We should see it on local shores soon after.

This set also brings with it some AR trickery. On this website, called Enter the Magic, you can use your phone to explore the set with animation.

“The AR experience will enable fans to see some amazing detail that have gone into recreating each shop, as well as see some of the minifigures interact with the set including; Harry Potter with his brand-new wand from Ollivanders and the Weasley twins showing off a new item from their joke shop, Weasley Wizard Weezes,” a press release reads.

This isn’t the first time LEGO has revealed a product this lengthy. Back in 2019 it released 75252: Imperial Star Destroyer which is 1.1 metres long. Many other sets also rival both of these in width, height or number of pieces.
