Marvel’s Avengers will have new shop items every hour

Marvel’s Avengers launches in just a few days on 4th September, but developer Crystal Dynamics is still working to explain how its many systems and complex meta will work.

The latest post on the official Marvel’s Avengers website, entitled “Everything You Need to Know about Weekly Play” is a bit misleading because it also has information about the changing content in the game on a daily and even hourly basis.

When speaking of Vendor & Marketplace Rotation, the announcement points out the following:

“Vendor Rotation: In-game Gear Vendors have an inventory that rotates once per hour, so there is always something unique to shop for. Cosmetic Vendors have a stock of outfits, emotes, and nameplates that rotate once per day – although Legendary Outfits stick around for the full week.”

This kind of constant shifting for purchasable in-game items are common in games-as-a-service (GAAS) titles, as well as certain MMOs and other titles with a majority focus on multiplayer and selling currency.

For those worried that the high rotation rate of vendors means that Crystal Dynamics is pushing you to spend more real world money, this isn’t the case.

In another update from the developer – “Everything You Need to Know about Gear & Cosmetics” – it is stated that vendors are paid in Units and Resources. In Marvel’s Avengers only the currency called Credits can be bought for real money, which are then in turn used at a separate store called the Marketplace.

It seems right now that the high turnover of the Vendors (which take Units and Resources) will not be tied into the Marketplace (which takes Credits). This, however, is based on pre-release information released by the developer, so we’ll have to wait for the 1.0 to confirm. On top of that the Marketplace will refresh weekly.

All of this, however, is very confusing. Even from the early betas it was clear that Marvel’s Avengers has an absolute glut of resources, in-game terminology and complex meta mechanics which are tied into progression.

With so little time before release we doubt things will be simplified before then, but hopefully the tutorial and in-game help will make it a bit easier to navigate.
