Shuffle play being tested by Netflix because 2020 isn’t chaotic enough

With so much content on Netflix, choosing something to watch can, at times, be overwhelming. Do you rewatch a movie you’ve seen? Do you start a new season of a show you love?

For those who can’t make up their minds, Netflix appears be testing a shuffle feature.

Spotted by TechCrunch, the feature appears on the Netflix home screen beneath your profile. When selected, Netflix will automatically start playing content it thinks you might like.

While we could see this working, it would work up until Netflix decided to show you the finale of a show you’ve been planning on watching.

Of course that’s just us speculating and that’s why Netflix is testing a feature like this before releasing it in the wild.

While we aren’t fans of leaving our nightly viewing up to a shuffle button we can see how it might be appealing to some folks.

As many started working from home, the number of people streaming content went up substantially. While some folks may have been doing this to avoid work some may have used it simply to have something on in the background. Shuffle would allow those folks to have content that agrees with them playing in the background as they do chores or work.

There is of course no guarantee that Netflix will make its shuffle option a permanent feature. The company now has to gather feedback and make a decision.
