The Huawei Y5p goes on sale in South Africa for R1899

Huawei has launched a new smartphone in South Africa, but it isn’t one of the new flagship or mid-range devices that the company has been touting of late. Instead it’s the Huawei Y5p, which is a new entry-level smartphone that the company bills as its most affordable to date.

To that end the Huawei Y5p carries a recommended price tag of R1 899.

So what do you get for less than R2k? Well the Y5p touts a 5.45″ LCD FullView Display. While it has the FullView moniker, it does not feature the same teardrop selfie camera notch spotted on some of the other Y series devices. That said it still serves up a respectable 81.2 percent screen-to-body ratio.

As for the selfie camera, a 5MP camera is present, with the rear setup featuring an 8MP lens.

Other elements of this entry-level device include 2GB RAM, 32GB worth of storage. There is a microSD slot to expand said storage to up to 512GB, as well as the ability to house two nano SIMs should you wish to opt with two different networks for specific services.

Lastly a 3 020 mAh battery is present, with Huawei noting that it can yield up to 17 hours of continuous video playback, 21 hours of 4G calling or 13 hours of web browsing over 4G.

As with all newer devices launched in 2020, the Huawei Y5p is running Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) and does not have access to the Google Play Store, which is something to note before purchasing it.

The device is currently up on the Huawei Store for the aforementioned R1 899, and will be available via other retailers like the Foschini Group, PEP, Ackermans, Woolworths, Truworths, Game, Mr Price, Edgars, Jet, Dunns and John Craig in Phantom Blue and Midnight Black, the company confirms.
