‘Mamma Mia Flesh Palace’ is a Peach’s Castle analogue in Dusk

It seems that Nintendo itself isn’t the only one celebrating the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. as old school FPS Dusk has revealed a homage of sorts to the series.

“Mamma Mia Flesh Palace” is the name of a new level in the game that is inspired by Peach’s Castle. If the name and general look of the level wasn’t enough, the trailer showing it off (embedded below) uses music and sound effects from Mario 64.

Those hoping this is some official Nintendo crossover, and the music will appear in Dusk itself, will be disappointed.

“MAMA MIA. A NEW ENDLESS LEVEL COMING SOON TO NINTENDO SWITCH™ (MARIO SOUNDS NOT INCLUDED, SORRY). PLEASE DON’T SUE US NINTENDO LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,” writes Dusk publisher New Blood Interactive.

It should be noted that the statement above was originally in all caps, and we didn’t add that in. The latter part of the comment, especially because it was made on YouTube, reminds us of the old “no copyright infringement intended” message that used to dwell in the description of many early YouTube videos.

Dusk was in Steam’s early access but then launched its 1.0 on 10th December 2018. Since then it has garnered a reputation as a fantastic example of the genre and it currently has an Overwhelmingly Positive overall rating on Steam with 98 per cent of the 8 505 reviews being positive.

As for the Nintendo Switch port that will be launching on Halloween this year – 31st October 2020. If you prefer to get it on PC right now it’s currently on sale for 40 per cent off. Funnily enough the PC version could probably be modded to add actual Mario sound effects into the game.
