Fujifilm has unveiled world’s first interchangeable F1.0 lens for mirrorless cameras

Fujifilm has announced a rather interesting lens for professional photographers that are fans of the Japanese company’s X-Series mirrorless cameras. Called the FUJINON Lens XF50mmF1.0 R WR, or THE ONE for short, it is the world’s first f1.0 interchangeable lens with autofocus designed for mirrorless cameras.

While that may seem like a rather niche category, as Fujifilm explains it, the upshot of the XF50mmF1.0 R WR’s design means that it can be used on most of the mirrorless cameras in the X-Series from the company thanks to its X-Mount design. It is also quite lightweight at 845g, which means you can get prime lens performance on a smaller camera body, it that is what you have on hand.

The XF50mmF1.0 R WR is billed as a large-diameter mid-telephoto prime lens, while also touting a focal length of 50mm. The aforementioned F1.0 functionality is said to be particularly handy at bokeh photography, and will likely be what it is primarily put to use for by professional photographers.

Fujifilm also notes that when paired with one of its digital mirrorless cameras, the autofocus capabilities of the XF50mmF1.0 R WR are quite impressive, while also supporting face and eye autofocus with selected models.

While we need to test it out ourselves to vouch for the performance, you can see it in action in the video below with one of Fujifilm’s X-Series photographers.

You also won’t have to wait too long to purchase a XF50mmF1.0 R WR lens, with it slated locally for later this month. A precise date and price are not confirmed by Fujifilm SA just yet, but we’ve heard rumblings that it may cost around the R30k mark.

As such, this is definitely a prime lens designed with pros in mind.
