HP refreshes Z lineup with new notebooks, mini and remote workstations

Anyone familiar with HP and its Z-branded devices knows that they are made professional creatives in mind. To that end the firm recently unveiled a host of new Z devices, with refreshed notebooks, towers and mini workstations being added to the lineup, as well as an interesting new remote offering too.

Most of these devices are slated for arrival in South Africa, along with some recommended pricing, so let’s go through some of the more eye catching offerings that will be landing locally.

The first is the Z2 Mini G5, which is pictured in the header image above. It is billed as the world’s most powerful mini workstation running Adobe, according to HP, and is the successor to a similar device the company revealed a few years ago. This new iteration is expected in SA later this month, and will cost an estimated R16 999 as its starting price.

Next is the new ZBook notebooks that HP has brought to the fore, which are split between the Fury and Power monikers.

The ZBook Fury is the more performance-focused of the two, and features a high degree of customisation and expandability, according to HP, with 15″ and 17″ flavours available. The latter also offers up to Quadro RTX 5000 or AMD Radeon RX graphics, but it remains to be seen what options are available locally. The lineup starts at R35 999 for the 15″ and R37 99 for the 17″, with both anticipated for mid-September.

Moving onto the ZBook Power, it is designed as an affordable option in the range, with STEAM students in particular being earmarked by HP. Local customisation options are still to be confirmed, but up to NVIDIA Quadro T2000 graphics and Intel Xeon or Core i9 processors are on offer, with it starting at R27 999 from mid-September onwards.

The last device of the newly refreshed Z range to point out is the ZCentral. It is a remote workstation, with HP noting that it’s the world’s first single-sourced remote workstation of its kind.

Added to this is the ZCentral 4R, which is a rack-specific solution of the ZCentral for IT departments to leverage for remote workers in the data science, healthcare, media and entertainment industries. This solution is equipped with the Intel Xeon W Processors (up to 18 CPU cores) and graphics options up to the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000.

It remains to be seen what the demand for such a solution is, but it is expected in October from R49 999, says HP.
