Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro the latest addition to company’s wearable lineup

Earlier today Huawei revealed six new pieces of hardware at its annual Developer Conference. While no new smartphones were revealed, we did get a pair of smartwatches in the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro and Watch Fit.

The latter is a slightly more paired down device, and it remains to be seen whether it will indeed be launched in South Africa. The Watch GT 2 Pro, however, is far more of a certainty, especially as both the impressive GT 2 and GT 2e have been launched in South Africa.

What makes this new offering different is the premium materials that Huawei has used for its construction. These include a sapphire glass for the watch face, titanium for the body and a ceramic case for the underside of the device.

There are also two models that were showcased by Huawei – the Classic and Sport editions.

The former starts at €329 (~R6 534) and the latter costs €349 (~R6 931). As with all of the new devices that Huawei showcased today, official local pricing is yet to be disclosed, but we can expect the latest addition to the company’s wearable lineup to land sometime next month.

Looking at some of the other elements, a 1.39″ circular OLED display is present, with it powered by the same Kirin A1 silicon as its predecessor. Huawei has also retained the up to two weeks of battery life on this model, with it capable of lasting 30 hours non-stop when the built-in GPS is active.

The key difference between the two, lies in the functionality for different workout modes on the Sport model, along with something that Huawei calls driving range mode. As such it caters to some rather niche workout types, if that’s your thing.

With more information as to when the devices will land locally expected in the coming days, of you were contemplating a new smartwatch, you may want to see how much the Watch GT 2 Pro retails for next month.
