Huawei’s new FreeBuds 3i wireless earphones priced at R1999 locally

Back in May Huawei revealed its updated wireless earphones – the FreeBuds 3i. These were an upgrade to the fairly solid FreeBuds 3 of last year, and now Huawei has made them available to purchase locally.

As always the South African Huawei Store is the go-to destination for these new wireless buds, with a R1 999 price tag being slapped on them. As is the case with most of Huawei’s new devices, the local Store is bundling them with accessories, which in this case is a 10 000mAh power bank.

For these new buds, a few things have changed too. The ear tips for example have been redesigned for a better in-ear fit. This should be welcome as one of the only issues we had with the previous generation is how comfortable they were to wear for long periods.

Added to this is open fit active noise cancelling technology, with Huawei says is a first for this form factor.

Being wireless offerings, battery life will prove important. On this front Huawei says the FreeBuds 3i can muster up to 3.5 hours from a single full charge. The new charging case helps to ensure that up to 14.5 hours of battery is now available, although we must admit that we were fans of the previous generation’s design.

It remains to be seen how this new buds compare to the predecessor, but with Huawei very much ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack on its flagship phones, and wireless earphones all the rage at the moment, these may be worth a look.

Outside of the Huawei Store, you can also pick up the FreeBuds 3i from Vodacom, Musica, Takealot and Hi-Store, but prices and bundled accessories may vary depending on the retailer.
