The official Xbox Wire blog has announced that Microsoft Flight Simulator has been a massive success since launching on 18th August.
One of the big figures here is that more than a million unique players have picked the game up so far. This makes it the biggest game launch on the Xbox Game Pass for PC.
Those million or so player have flown more than a billion miles so far. In the superior measuring system that’s about 1.6 billion kilometres. According to NASA, the Moon is 384 400 kilometres away from Earth, Mars is 227 940 000 kilometres, and the Sun is 149 600 000 kilometres. That puts into perspective how much flying players have done in just over two weeks.
Jorg Neumann, head of Microsoft Flight Simulator also adds that this distance is enough to fly around the world 40 000 times.
All that distance covered has been done in more than 26 million flights, with the longest one completed so far being a 10.39 hour journey over 7 623 kilometres.
As for what aircraft players are using for all this flying, the most popular are:
- Daher TBM 930
- Cessna Citation CJ4
- Airbus A320neo
Players are parking their fleets at John F. Kennedy International (the most popular aircraft) or their homes (the most popular destination visited).
While the launch has been a success there’s more on the horizon for new and returning pilots.
“Launch marks the beginning of a journey for us and this is just the start. There is plenty more to come on our flight itinerary including world updates, sim updates, and future themed DLC. Microsoft Flight Simulator is the ticket for anyone who has ever dreamt of flying or exploring the world. The sky is calling,” Neumann adds.
Microsoft Flight Simulator is available without additional purchase on Xbox Game Pass for PC. It can also be bought outright on Steam and the Microsoft Store.
