Minecraft’s Steve is the latest fighter to join Super Smash Bros.

Today we finally know who the next fighter, and franchise crossover, to be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and it’s none other than Steve from Minecraft.

In an announcement stream – Mr. Sakurai Presents “???” – we see Mario blasted off the stage before Steve is introduced. Well Steve and a Creeper which kills Mario.

While Steve is the default for this character it comes with multiple skins which can change it into Alex, a Zombie and an Enderman.

You can see all these skins and gameplay of Steve in the reveal video below. You can also visit the official Super Smash Bros. Ultimate X Minecraft website and click on the character model to cycle through the different looks.

After the gameplay Sakurai pops up to explain how this all happened, as Steve appearing in the game has long been a fan request that many thought would never happen.

Apparently Nintendo approaches Sakurai with an idea for a character, instead of things being the other way around as we would have suspected.

While Minecraft is known for its simplicity implementing them into Ultimate was a challenge as the stages needed to be reworked to allow blocks to be placed in them, which the new characters use to fight.

In a couple of days, on 3rd October, Sakurai will return with another stream to explain the nitty gritty of this new fighter. We expect the exact details about when we can play as Steve and company to be revealed then.

Steve has been added to the Ultimate artwork and the official Super Smash Bros. account comments on the fact that its addition will bring the number of playable fighters in the game up to a whopping 82.
