Having had first hand experience with one earlier this year, panic button applications are among the best reasons to have a smartphone in 2020.

This week iStore announced that it would be offering customers who purchase an Apple Watch Cellular free access to the ReactPlus app for six months.

But what is ReactPlus?

ReactPlus is a panic button app that is built for iPhone and Apple Watch. The app looks similar to CAP Security’s CAP App but that’s because iStore has built this solution on top of the CAP App.

Essentially, should you encounter trouble, ReactPlus can be activated and armed response will be dispatched to your location.

We were curious as to whether this solution made use of AURA’s platform but we were told by iStore that it was not.

The ReactPlus app for Apple Watch Cellular works independently from iPhone so you can leave your handset at home when you head out on a jog.

Should you encounter trouble, tapping the “Help Me” function will send your location to a command centre where armed response will be dispatched. Despite CAP Security being a partner here, iStore tells us that ReactPlus will work regardless of whether you are in an area serviced by the security firm.

“The ReactPlus response area is nationwide. Where CAP does not have coverage the app works with a large network of affiliate security providers. All panics and incidents, however, are handled centrally by the highly-skilled CAP control room. This is critical as the speed and relevancy of the help that is dispatched makes all the difference when dealing with emergency situations. In areas where CAP do not have rapid response, ReactPlus will dispatch an affiliate security provider that operates within that area,” iStore told Hypertext.

There’s also a function called “Meet”. Selecting this function will prompt you to enter an address and a safe meeting window will be assigned. Once that window expires you will be required to input a security code and should no code be entered, armed response will be dispatched.

A similar function called “Ride” will alert security should you not arrive at a pre-determined location.

As mentioned, all customers purchasing an Apple Watch Cellular will receive six months access to ReactPlus and thereafter a fee of R39 per month will apply.
