Ahead of next week’s Apple event, reported iPhone 12 pricing has leaked

By this time next week we should have seen the new mobile devices that Apple has been working on, with an iPhone 12 event scheduled for 19:00 local time on 13th October.

What makes this particular event interesting is that Apple is expected to debut as many as four new iPhone models, all of which rumoured to support 5G, which would be an important step for the Cupertino-based company.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the rumour mill has begun churning in earnest for the upcoming smartphones, with one of the latest being pricing for the new iPhones.

The rumours come via AppleTrack, which is a site we have little experience with, so all the information that follows should naturally be taken with a generous pinch of salt. It is also the US pricing and availability, so those interested in the new iPhones locally, we’ll need to wait until after 13th October for those specific details.

If true, this rumoured pricing should give us an indication of what Apple is thinking for South Africa, especially as 5G-supporting phones have carried an additional premium of late.

So what are the numbers that AppleTrack is bandying about?

According to the site, there are four models that will be revealed – a mini, regular, Pro and Pro Max. Whether all four are indeed coming to SA remains to be seen, but that is quite a bit of hardware.

As for the prices being listed, the iPhone 12 mini will start things off at $699 (~R11 519). Next, the larger iPhone 12 is said to cost $799 (~R13 166), and the iPhone 12 Pro is expected at $999 (~R16 463). Rounding up the quartet, the iPhone 12 Pro Max could cost as much as $1 099 (~R18 111).

We expect the local prices to be quite a bit more once import tax and other elements are factored in, so it will be interesting to see whether South African consumers have the appetite for more expensive Apple hardware.

If past experience is anything to go by, there will be initial shock, followed by swift pre-orders.
