As the country heads closer to the 700k mark for the total number of coronavirus infections, the latest figures released by the National Department of Health (NDoH) on COVID-19 in South Africa, follow a trend we’ve seen over the past few weeks.
To that end, only 888 new infections for the COVID-19 have been reported over the past 24 hours, which has been the case during the first few days of a new week, before they steadily picked up to between the 1 500 to 1 900 mark.
The total number of infections for the country to date, now sit at 693 359.
As such, it will prove interesting to see whether the daily infection rate picks up in the coming days. Especially as the recovery rate has held steady at 90 percent for some time now. The latest figures in this regard sees 624 659 recoveries being reported by the NDoH.
Unfortunately, however, 83 additional fatalities have also been recorded. The total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in South Africa now sits at 17 863.
Of the new 83, the NDoH confirms that 17 are from the Eastern Cape, 43 from the Free State, two from KwaZulu-Natal, 11 from Gauteng, three from the North West and seven from the Western Cape.
