As we head into another weekend under alert level 1 lockdown, we have the latest figures from the National Department of Health (NDoH) to look at regarding COVID-19 in South Africa.
The department’s report notes that 2 156 new cases have been reported over the past 24 hours.
While that might seem like a fairly low figure given that the total for the country to date now sits at 710 515, it would mark consecutive days where the new daily infections have surpassed the 2k mark, which is a barrier they have rarely done since level 1 lockdown began.
As such, it will prove interesting to see what the numbers are over the coming days, with it yet to be seen what impact lowered restrictions and increasing heat will play.
Looking at the number of recoveries, the NDoH reports that 642 560 have been recorded to date, with the recovery rate continuing to sit at 90 percent.
Unfortunately 102 new fatalities have also been recorded, with the total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in South Africa now 18 843. As was the case yesterday, the NDoH has not confirmed which provinces account for the fatalities.
