Yesterday, only 891 new cases for COVID-19 in South Africa were recorded by the National Department of Health (NDoH). It is part of a trend we’ve seen in recent weeks, with the number of new daily infections rising as the week progresses.
Based on the latest numbers from the NDoH, it looks like we’re on trend again this week. This as 1 092 new cases have been reported over the past 24 hours.
Consequently, the total number of cases for the country has risen to 717 851, with 647 833 recoveries and 4.72 million tests having been recorded by the NDoH to date.
As has been the case for some time now, the recovery rate remains at 90 percent, with no real indication at this stage on whether it shows signs of increasing or decreasing in coming weeks.
Unfortunately, the NDoH also notes that 45 new fatalities have also been recorded, with the total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in the country to date sitting at 19 053.
At the time of writing, the NDoH has not detailed which provinces account for the new fatalities.
