Former Uber SSA GM Alon Lits appointed as chairman at AURA

Safety and security platform AURA is welcoming a new chairman today and its a name you might recognise.

Alon Lits, formerly the general manager for Uber sub-Saharan Africa will be joining AURA as its chairman with immediate effect.

This is a big deal as Lits is pretty much a stalwart in the tech space at this stage. He started his career at Investec before moving to Uber in 2013 where he served as the firm’s first local GM.

In terms of qualifications, Lits holds an MBA from INSEAD and is also qualified as an Associate of the Faculty and Institute of Actuaries in the UK.

“I am passionate about technology-driven businesses and wanted an opportunity to provide strategic counsel to a company that’s mission and vision resonates with mine. I wanted to work with a brand that leverages technology to not redefine businesses, but that use it to make existing industries more efficient. Aura is an excellent example of exactly this scenario,” said Lits of his decision to join AURA.

As for AURA, following our conversation with the firm earlier this year, it looks to be eyeing an expansion by bringing more security firms onboard as well as moving into other African nations.

“I have every confidence that Aura will continue to build a brand synonymous with making South Africa safer. It is already an impressive business and together, we can create something really exceptional,” Lits concluded.

We’re already impressed with AURA’s offering and with Lits at the helm as chairman, we suspect that AURA will be a company to watch in the next year or two.
