Zachtronics’ Möbius Front ’83 pits USA against alternate reality USA

Famed developer Zachtronics, known for titles such as SpaceChem, Opus Magnum, Ironclad Tactics and more, has revealed its newest game Möbius Front ’83.

This turn-based tactics game involving ’80s military hardware has a rather unique premise:

“The year is 1983 and the United States of America must defend itself from an enemy it could have never imagined— an America from an alternate universe that will stop at nothing to seize control of the country’s heartland!” reads the official description of the game.

In the reveal trailer (embedded at the bottom of this story) we get a voice over from a Ronald Reagan impersonator explaining the situation. In the real world Reagan was the US president between 1981 to 1989. We wonder if the big bad of the game will be an alternate reality Reagan, or maybe even Jimmy Carter with the other reality having him as the winner of the 1980 election.

Regardless this is a really interesting take on America’s military might which is usually used in games as your mindless sledgehammer for kicks or as the target of criticism for war crimes. Having America be the only thing that can take on America is a great twist on this idea.

We also like the look of the game as it reminds of Advance Wars and the more recent Into the Breach.

“In Möbius Front ‘83 you will fight tactical, turn-based battles with the cutting-edge military hardware of the early 1980s. Use every tool available — powerful tanks, fast-moving attack helicopters, long-ranged artillery, tenacious infantry, and more — to control the complex and rapidly-changing battlefield of the era,” continues the description.

Möbius Front ’83 releases rather soon on 5th November on PC, Mac and Linux. The Steam store page is already up if you want to add it to your wishlist.
