Last week we passed the seven month mark for the country’s lockdown, and as we enter November and the year end, we’re still no closer to stopping the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa.
According to the latest figures provided by the National Department of Health (NDoH), the to total number of infections to date now sits at 726 823, with 1 371 new cases being reported over the past 24 hours.
While the new daily numbers have not peaked since our move to alert level 1 lockdown, they also have not fallen significantly either.
This is evidenced by the fact that the recovery rate continues to sit at 90 percent, with 655 330 recoveries recorded to date.
That said, the number of fatalities is still climbing, as 135 new deaths have been reported by the NDoH, pushing the total number of deaths as a result of COVID-19 to 19 411. According to the NDoH, of the new 135, Gauteng accounts the most with 107, along with 22 from the Eastern Cape, two from the Free State and four from the Western Cape.
