COVID-19 in South Africa: 6th November

As the world still waits with bated breath for the results of the 2020 US Presidential elections, there is still the prospect of COVID-19 in South Africa to contend with.

According to the latest figures released by the National Department of Health (NDoH), the number of new daily infections has slowly been ramping up this week.

To that end, the NDoH reports that 1 886 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours. This pushes the country’s total number of infections to 732 414, with more than 4.91 million tests having been conducted to date, as well as 671 579 recoveries too.

Consequently, the recovery rate has increased for the first time in a number of weeks, and increased by quite a bit, sitting at 91.7 percent currently.

Whether this is a sign of South Africa turning the corner when it comes to COVID-19 is still too early to determine at this stage, but it serves as some good news as we head into the weekend.

Unfortunately though, 92 new fatalities have been recorded, resulting in the country’s total number of deaths related to COVID-19 increasing to 19 677.

Of the new 92, the NDoH confirms that 27 are from the Eastern Cape, seven from Gauteng, 17 from the Free State, four from KwaZulu-Natal, one from Mpumalanga, 23 from North West, eight from the Northern Cape and five from the Western Cape.
