Xiaomi Redmi 9 Series: A device for every want and need

We are on the precipice of the festive season, which means gifts for the loved ones and maybe time to splurge on yourself, especially if you’ve been waiting to opt for a new device when the Christmas bonus comes in or holiday sales are on.

It’s good then that the Redmi 9 Series from Xiaomi has launched in South Africa with prices and specs which make them absolutely compelling in the mid-range, and worth your time and money if you’re not looking to spend used car money on your next phone.

In this vein Xiaomi is giving customers something for free. The entire Redmi 9 Series – for a limited time – all come with a free set of Mi True Wireless Earphones. That’s right: while other manufactures are taking more out of the box, even the charger in some cases, picking up the Redmi 9 Series right now gets you free wireless earphones.

But what devices comes paired with those nice free earphones? The Redmi 9 Series comes in two flavours, depending on the size of the device you want and what you’re looking to spend.

The Notes

For those looking for something larger there’s the Redmi Note 9 Pro (R6 499) and Redmi Note 9 (R3 999). These heavy hitters are packing screens which are 6.67 and 6.53 inches respectively, so you’ve got a massive multimedia experience in your pocket.

The Note 9 Pro’s larger screen has a resolution of 2400×1080 to watch and read all your favourite content, or make your own with the gamut of cameras on offer here.

Up front there’s a subtle pinhole 16MP shooter for all your selfie and videoconferencing needs. Flip the Note 9 Pro around, however, and there’s quad camera display made up of a 64MP + 8MP + 5MP + 2MP arrangement. That’s a 64MP wide-angle, an 8MP ultra wide-angle, a 5MP macro and finally a 2MP depth sensor. Just about everything you’d need.

Powering all of this is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G which means everything is nice and snappy, as well as 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage expandable to 512 GB.

The Note 9 is no slouch either with a 2340×1080 resolution screen, a MediaTek Helio G85, up to 3GB of RAM and up to 64GB of storage, also expandable to 512 GB. The Note 9 has its own quad camera setup too and another high resolution front facing camera.

The 9s

For those who want to keep the budget in check the Redmi 9 Series has three more devices on offer: the Redmi 9 (R3 399), Redmi 9C (R2 599) and Redmi 9A (R1 999). These lower priced offerings are almost more impressive due to the amount of tech you’re getting for the money, as well as those free earphones mentioned at the top.

Case in point is the displays here: all three of these phones feature 6.53 inch displays. That’s right: you’re getting almost tablet sized displays from reasonably priced phones. A few years ago this was unheard of, but they’re available today.

With three devices to choose from here you can then match your desired specs to your budget and pick up a 9 Series phone that works for you. You can shop the entire Redmi 9 Series on the official Xiaomi South Africa site.

These devices are also available in stores and online from Takealot, TFG, FNB eBucks, hi-online. And, starting this month, you can also get Xiaomi products from Vodacom.
