Bolt adds SOS button powered by Namola to its app

While it might’ve been a long time coming, we are glad to see that Bolt has now added an SOS button to its app.

The SOS button is powered by Namola. We’ve unfortunately had an experience where we needed to call on Namola for help and we can attest that the service works as intended.

The button expands on Bolt’s Safety Toolkit which helps rides connect with emergency services while on a Bolt ride.

The integration with Namola is notable here as it allows emergency response teams to find a rider’s location, contact information and details about the driver, their vehicle and license plate.

“If a Bolt passenger feels unsafe or if they are involved in an accident or any other emergency incident while on a ride, they can activate the Namola-linked SOS button in the Safety Toolkit on their Bolt app,” country manager for Bolt in South Africa, Gareth Taylor said in a statement.

“This technology integration saves time, and enables response teams to reach passengers’ locations faster, because faster responses save lives,” Taylor added.

Upon pressing the SOS button Bolt’s High Priority response team will be alerted and where necessary, they will work with the South African Police Services.

“Safety is an ongoing focus for everyone in the transportation sector in South Africa and it’s our responsibility to continue to invest heavily in keeping our passengers and drivers safe while they are utilising our platform,” Taylor concluded.

This SOS button coupled with other safety features such as being able to share ride details with friends and family should help to give riders that extra safety net should they need it.
