COVID-19 in South Africa: 24th November

Concerns were raised with regard to COVID-19 in South Africa and the recent rise in the number of new daily infections, especially those in the Eastern Cape. Following the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) those concerns remain as 2 080 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours.

The result is an increase in the total number of infections to date, which now sits at 769 759, with over 5.3 million tests have been conducted to date.

Looking closer at those new infections, Gauteng makes up the majority, accounting for 30.4 percent of the total, followed by the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal with 16.4 percent. The Eastern Cape is next with 15.4 percent.

The department also reports that 711 195 recoveries have been recorded, resulting in a recovery rate of 92.4 percent.

Unfortunately, 65 new fatalities have been recorded over the past 24 hours, with the total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in South Africa now sitting at 20 968.

Of the new 65, the NDoH confirms that the Eastern Cape has 26, the Free State accounts for 19, Gauteng has two, Limpopo has three, the North West contributes eight and the Western Cape has seven.
