The Delicious Last Course Cuphead DLC is the latest COVID-19 delay

Countless games, movies and other media properties have been delayed this year due to the pandemic and now the DLC for Cuphead – The Delicious Last Course – is included in the list.

The founders of Studio MDHR, the developer of Cuphead, have released a joint statement about the development of the DLC that was planned to be released this year.

“While the Delicious Last Course is a continuation of Cuphead and Mugman’s grand adventure, it’s also a conclusion to the story that began on that fateful day at The Devil’s casino. In true Studio MDHR fashion, we aren’t content for this final chapter to be anything less than our best work. Throughout development, we’ve challenged ourselves to put everything we learned from making Cuphead into the quality of The Delicious Last Course’s animation, design, and music,” founders Chad and Jared Moldenhauer write.

“Meeting this standard has been extremely challenging for us amid the global pandemic that has affected so many of our fellow developers. Rather than compromise on our vision in response to COVID, we’ve made the difficult decision to push back the release of The Delicious Last Course until we are confident it will delight the Cuphead community the way we feel it should. We know many of you have been waiting to return to the Inkwell Isles, and our goal is to make the trip back there next year a truly magical one,” the Moldenhauers conclude.

Cuphead broke ground when it released in 2017 with its faithful classic cartoon style and music. Even for those who found its run and gun gameplay difficult could still delight in the sights and sounds that Studio MDHR has prepared and Cuphead became an overnight classic.

It’s these sky-high expectations that the developers are looking to meet for the DLC so it makes sense that it’s difficult to piece together as the pandemic keeps raging on.

The Delicious Last Course was announced all the way back in 2018 (see the reveal trailer at the bottom of this page) so fans have been waiting a long time for this content, COVID-19 or not. The DLC promises a new isle, new bosses, new weapons and new charms, on top of a new playable character Ms. Chalice.

For now there is no release date for The Delicious Last Course.
