Grounded goes underwater with the Koi Pond Update

Obsidian Entertainment’s miniature survival game has yet another update to keep early access players happy, this time in the form of the Koi Pond Update.

As you may have guessed by the name this update focuses on a koi pond that becomes a massive body of water for the tiny explorers of Grounded.

Mikey Dowling, Director of Communications at Obsidian Entertainment, reveals that this is the biggest update added to the game since it went live in July this year.

“This new area of the backyard brings new wildlife, new crafting recipes, and new mysteries, along with underwater gameplay mechanics that will allow players to go deeper than ever before. Intrepid explorers navigating the depths of the murky pond will meet a host of creatures, including Tadpoles, Water Boatmen, Diving Bell Spiders (did you know certain spiders can swim?!), and the awe-inspiring Koi Fish,” Dowling writes.

You can see much of this in the new trailer below. The signature humour which has become synonymous with Grounded is again present here. We love the reference to the Jaws franchise and the famous “just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water” tagline.

The release of the Koi Pond Update also comes with a few other updates and reminders about Grounded.

The first is that the game, which is published by Xbox Game Studios, is optimised for the brand new Xbox Series X and Series S. Those who picked up the new console can experience 4K, 60 FPS and HDR support along with “increased graphical fidelity” and faster loading times.

Grounded is available for no additional purchase on Xbox Game Pass for both console and PC. It can also be bought outright on both platforms as well as Steam. Smart Delivery is also supported so those who own the game on the Xbox One automatically get it for free on the Series X|S.

Secondly, Grounded has now surpassed five million players. One of the employees at Xbox Game Studios lost a bet to get a tattoo should the game get a million players, which it has long since eclipsed. You can see this in the video below, which also provides some behind the scenes information about the game.
