LEGO Batwing, Baby Yoda & Sesame Street launch in South Africa

With a new month upon us South African LEGO fans can go out and buy three of the newest sets to arrive in official LEGO stores. They’re all big box, expensive sets with thousands of pieces each: the 1989 Batwing based on the Tim Burton movie, a replica of Sesame Street and Baby Yoda / The Child from The Mandalorian.

The piece count, price and link to buy all of these new sets are as follows:

  • DC Batman 1989 Batwing – 2 363 pieces – R3 999.99
  • 123 Sesame Street – 1 367 pieces –  R2 499.99
  • Star Wars The Child – 1 295 pieces – R1 649.99

The piece counts and prices of the sets above may seem a bit odd, even if you’re not the type who cares about price per piece when buying sets. This is because all LEGO in the country received a substantial price increase yesterday, 1st November. More details about this can be found in this story in which country manager for LEGO South Africa, Kristian Imhof, explains that a weak Rand versus the Euro necessitated the increase.

For those undeterred by the price there are some things to note about each. The Batwing, for example, goes great with the 1989 Batmobile which was released in 2019. It’s more expensive  at R4 999.99 and has more pieces – 3 306. The two look great displayed together for Batman fans who don’t mind maxing out the credit card.

This version of The Child from The Mandalorian is actually the third time this character has been represented in LEGO. A minifigure version first appeared in the Razor Crest set, and a blocky version is available in LEGO’s answer to the Funko Pop.

While these three sets are the big name hitters for November the official LEGO store has also released a collection of new branded stationary for the new month too. These are decent stocking fillers especially as the year winds down towards the holiday season.

Back to the more expensive sets, if you need help choosing between the three, or you just want to see more of them, watch the official videos released for each, embedded below:
