Depending on their region Nintendo account holders may have received an official email from the company alerting them to privacy policy updates, including the automatic updates of certain details such as the use of a credit card.

You can read the full Nintendo Account Privacy Policy here but the two big new features to accompany this update can be found below:

  • “The Account Updater feature, which can automatically update the credit card information stored on Nintendo eShop for your convenience. For example, if your credit card has expired or its number has changed, the new information can be provided at the time of purchase by the bank that issues your credit card. Please understand that some banks do not support automatic updates yet, and that the usage of this service depends on the agreement you have with your bank.
  • Play activity and recommendations shared among your group of friends. Nintendo can inform your friends of games you have played, and vice versa. You can control the sharing and use of play data through your Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Account settings.”

This specific email alerting account holders to the changes comes from Nintendo Europe, and we here in South Africa also received it. This means that the Account Updater is far reaching so it’s best to talk to your bank to see if they offer this service.

Also mentioned in the update is more steps to keep accounts safe:

“Nintendo is constantly reviewing measures to keep your Nintendo Account as safe as possible. We are planning to enhance the security of the sign-in process, and one element of this is the further integration of Google reCAPTCHA. Our use of that service is reflected in the new version of the Nintendo Account Privacy Policy,” the mail reads.
