The often overlooked game from late 2019 – Terminator: Resistance – now has a free update which allows you to play as the famous T-800.

Playing as the T-800 is included in the new Infiltrator Mode for the game. This name is, of course, a reference to the fact that the T-800 is an infiltrator unit.

There are four key gameplay elements in Infiltrator Mode, according to the announcement attached to this update:

• BECOME A TERMINATOR – Take on the role of an iconic T-800 series Infiltrator and utilize a wide variety of weaponry as you breach the defenses of the Resistance forces.
• KNOWLEDGE IS POWER – Build up your data banks with INTEL claimed from Resistance patrols and caches to discover the locations of key enemy strongholds.
• PURSUE AND DESTROY – Root out and eliminate the TECH-COM FIELD COMMANDER, but prepare carefully; should you fail in your mission, you’ll have to start again from the beginning.
• COMPARE YOUR TECHNIQUE – Once you’ve completed your mission, post your score on the Steam Leaderboards to contrast your methods against others across the globe. 

It’s rather interesting that gathering data is a big part of the experience here. A plot point in Terminator 2 is that the T-800s are usually preset to read-only and need to be switched over to gather new data and learn.

Above you can see the short teaser which has been released showing the human exterior of the Terminator players will be controlling. Below there are screenshots of the gameplay where you can see the usual red colour associated with the Terminator’s internal HUD. Thankfully it seems this can be toggled because starring at a completely red screen for extended periods of time doesn’t sound like much fun.

On top of this playable content, owners of the game will also find a comicbook which acts as a prequel to the game. A PDF of the comic can be found in the game files using these instructions.

Terminator: Resistance is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. On Steam the game is currently 40 percent off too.

Unfortunately for those who bought the game on other platforms the free update – including the Infiltrator Mode and the comicbook – are only available on Steam right now. Publisher Reef Entertainment only makes mention of Steam in official communications and no information is provided for accessing the comic elsewhere.
