South African game Stasis gets crowdfunded sequel, demo

2015 game Stasis, made by South African developer / publisher The Brotherhood, will be getting a sequel which you can help make real by way of crowdfunding.

Stasis – Bone Totem is now available for players to pledge to, should they feel so inclined on this dedicated site. The goal is to raise $60 000 which, right now, converts to around R917 196. At the time of writing it has raised $1779.66 (~R27 204).

But what is Bone Totem? Like its predecessor this game is an isometric point & click with a suitably creepy sci-fi world.

“STASIS: BONE TOTEM is a thrilling and spine-tingling journey into the unknown fathoms of the icy ocean and the terrors that await a family. They will uncover a threat far beyond their wildest dreams,” reads the official Steam page.

That Steam page also has a free demo you can download and play right now, which really can’t be said for many crowdfunded games. Being able to play a bit of what you’re contributing to goes a long way in helping those who may be on the fence.

Back to the crowdfunding and the cheapest way to get involved (and get a copy of the game) is the $16 (~R244) tier which gets you a copy of the game, your name in the credits and a free key for the original Stasis. This tier increases to $19 (~R290) when the early bird offer is up.

For $24 (~R366) you get a deluxe edition with the soundtrack and a digital artbook. At $59 (~901) you can get early beta access and At the highest tier of $749 (~11 443) you can be a character in the game.

You may have noticed that the campaign and its tiers are priced in US Dollars. This is a bit unfortunate for us actually in South Africa but we understand the need to appeal to an international audience and to depend on a more widely accepted currency.

It’s worth noting that the original Stasis was one of the first South African games to be successfully Kickstarted back in 2013. Here’s to hoping for another success this time around.

Stasis – Bone Totem has an estimated release in the first quarter of 2022.

Regardless of anyone’s decision to back this new game the previous titles from The Brotherhood are extremely cheap on Steam if you’d like to give them a go. Its isometric adventure game from last year – Beautiful Desolation – is R135. The first Stasis is R99 and the game Cayne is free with a R25 deluxe edition upgrade.

Before picking any of these up consider contributing to certain tiers of the crowdfunding because, as mentioned, they can unlock access to these games.
