WeThinkCode_ matches developers with SMEs in its Placement Programme

WeThinkCode_ is currently looking for SMEs to join its SME Placement Programme whereby its developers will be placed at SMEs as part of an internship.

As you might be aware, WeThinkCode_ trains up to 300 software developers each year and the SME Placement Programme draws from those developers.

As part of the training, students are required to complete two instances of work placement and that’s where the programme comes in.

SMEs are able to join the programme and employ an intern with the advantage of having the first option to employ the developer once their studies are complete.

WeThinkCode_ says its interns will be able to add value to in-house development teams in the following areas:

  • Working with the existing software development teams to enhance and extend existing custom software, particularly if you have Python or Java codebases;
  • Extend or write tests for your codebase;
  • Write documentation;
  • Investigate and experiment with new tools and technologies that the existing team may not have the capacity to do.

Naturally, the above is just an example of some of the capabilities of the developers.

Internship placements will take place between March and May 2021 as well as between February and May 2022.

There are, however, stipulations for SMEs looking to hire a WeThinkCode_ developer.

The SME must be a registered company with 250 or fewer employees with a turnover of less than R85 million per year. Interns will also have to pay the intern a stipend of R7 000 per month.

“We are all about finding top talent, no matter where they are from or what they have done before. Our course is completely cost-free to students, no prior coding experience is required and a Matric is optional,” chief executive officer at WeThinkCode_, Nyari Samushong, said in a statement.

If that sounds like your firm then you will need to apply to join the programme before 30th November 2020.

Applications can be submitted here and you should be matched with a developer in December ahead of interviews taking place in January 2021.
