SpaceX wants to launch and land its Starship as soon as this week

The next big milestone for SpaceX is getting to Mars.

But in order to do that it needs to test its Starship that will ferry up to 100 people to the Red Planet.

While SpaceX has been testing Starship via static fire tests and short hops, this week we might see something more substantial.

Chief executive officer at SpaceX, Elon Musk, has teased that a test launch and landing could happen this week, but not before Wednesday. The test will see Starship ascend 15km into the air before attempting a landing.

While the exact time and date of this test is an unknown, The Independent reports that SpaceX has requested road closures around its Boca Chica facility in Texas on Wednesday. Additional closures are planned for 3rd and 4th December.

Which ever day the test launch happens, Musk hopes to stream the event online which should be interesting.

Should SpaceX be able to launch and land Starship successfully, the next hurdle to overcome is an orbital flight test. That test could happen as soon as next year.

From there a cargo mission to Mars could take place in 2022, while crewed missions might happen in 2024.

We’ll keep an eye out for news of an official stream from SpaceX should this test indeed be set to take place this week.
