Update makes optimised Xbox Series X|S games easier to find

The next generation of consoles is finally here and Microsoft has rolled out its first substantial update for the Series X, Series S and previous gen Xbox One.

One of the most interesting changes to us, is a small logo on the game art of titles which have been optimised for the Series X|S.

“Xbox launched over 30 games fully optimized for Series X|S, including Assassins Creed: ValhallaYakuza: Like a Dragon, and The Falconeer. Many of your favorite Xbox One games – including Gears 5, Forza Horizon 4, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps – have released updates to take advantage of the increased performance of Xbox Series X|S,” reads an announcement from Jonathan Hildebrandt, principal program manager for Xbox Experiences.

“To make it easier to see which of your games have been optimized, we’ve added an ‘X|S’ badge to their tiles in My Games and Apps, in both the Games and Full Library views. You can also use the Filter button to see only ‘Optimized for Xbox Series X|S’ games,” Hildebrandt adds.

Together with this branding you can also see the “Game Pass” logo in the corner of game art to indicate it’s available on that subscription service.

Apart from this handy little badges the November Xbox update also comes with a few other features.

There’s six new dynamic backgrounds on offer, a sliced together version you can see in the header image above. If those aren’t to your liking more are planned for the future too.

Achievement tracking in the Game Activity tab, additions of family members during setup and pre-installing of upcoming Game Pass titles have all also been included in the update, the full details of which you can find here.

Finally, together with the optimisation badges mentioned above there’s a new indicator of games supporting Auto HDR.

“When the Auto HDR setting is turned on in your console, it can improve the visual quality of a game without changing its overall look with no additional work from the developer. When you open the guide during a game with Auto HDR running, you’ll see a new tag to let you know the game is benefiting from this feature,” Hildebrandt writes.

You can see this tag in the top right corner in the screenshot below.
