Joburg extends hours of licencing centres during the holidays

The City of Johannesburg has announced that extra resources have been put in place to keep licencing centres open longer during the 2020 festive season and into early 2021.

Between 1st December 2020 and 31st January 2021 select licencing centres in Joburg will be open for longer to “lessen the backlog of driving licence renewals and as well as prepare for the festive season travelling”.

The following five Driver’s Licence testing Centres (DLTCs) will be open between 07:30 and  18:00 during the week. Thankfully for those still working during this time they will also be open on the weekend between 08:00 and 13:00:

  • Langlaagte
  • Midrand
  • Randburg
  • Roodepoort
  • Sandton

“To ensure that the backlog reduction process is expedited. the City will dedicate 70% of its available resources to online bookings for license renewals. Furthermore. the City will provide additional slots I. Sunday bookings,” the announcement reads.

As mentioned by the city, online bookings are still the best way to go should you want to renew your licence.

Back in January of last year we went through the arduous process of renewing our licence and we documented the process. While the South African government as a whole is known to change up its official processes on a whim the information we gathered should still be useful.

If you’ve recently renewed your licence and found the process different to ours above please let us know on Facebook or Twitter.
